Jet2 divert flights over lockout

Flights are being diverted away from Blackpool Airport as a row with airline Jet2 escalates, the Gazette reports. The budget airline has been told all flights due to arrive after 21:00 will have to find somewhere else to land, as the airport is closed.
The newspaper reports that bosses at the airport – which is set to lose £2.7m this year and could shed 85 staff – are no longer prepared to provide staff for late night Jet2 services. The airport – frustrated Jet2 is not prepared to expand its European services from Blackpool – is maintaining it cannot open beyond its published 07:00 to 21:00 operating hours.
In a letter to staff, airport director Paul Rankin said: ‘From October 30 our rosters will reflect these operating hours and Jet2 will need to amend its schedules to comply with a 21:00 closure. It is not the wish of the airport to cause inconvenience to any passengers but it appears unavoidable flights will be diverted to one of Jet2's other bases.’
Flights in the last few days have been diverted to Manchester – leaving passengers flying in from Spain and Portugal with a long bus trip to pick up their cars and travel home from Blackpool, which will not be helping with customer loyalty at the airport or airline. It almost looks like the airport is trying to drive the airline away.
