Airport will help Blackpool lift off

Blackpool Airport is key to transforming the resort to make it a number one attraction once more. That is the view of the airport's business development director, who gave a keynote speech at the latest 'Future Fylde' business meeting.
More than 60 businessmen, representing dozens of companies across the area, listened to how the transformation of Blackpool Airport into a popular regional hub is leading the way in the regeneration of the town.
Gareth Kennedy, director of business development at the airport, said: 'Over the next 12 to 18 months we have more plans in place to expand the airport further and carry on putting the resort first.'
'We are in discussion with a number of airlines to bring more destinations to the resort, and getting more people to sample other European cities. There was once talk of Blackpool's catchment area as a 2 hour drive away, now we are talking a 2 hour flight away.'
