Judge rules that airport must stay open
06.11.10
Blackpool Airport has been told to remain open past 21:00 after Jet2 successfully won a High Court Injunction against the hub, the Gazette reports. A row erupted this week between the airline and airport when airport bosses said they would no longer provide ground staff and emergency services for late night flights. A High Court judge ruled yesterday that the airport must maintain the provision of their services to Jet2, as it has signed a contract agreeing to do.
This week planes due to land after 21:00 have been diverted to other airports. This added hours on to passenger travelling times as they had to be coached back to Blackpool, and Jet2 said the airport's action was ‘unlawful’. They took their case to the High Court, and yesterday Mr Justice Hamblen issued an injunction order requiring the airport to maintain the provision of its services.
Jet2 chief executive Philip Meeson told the newspaper: ‘This is great news.' The airport refused to comment.
