Blackpool Airport to host air race

Blackpool Airport is to host an exciting Aero GP racing event later this month. The Aero GP Blackpool will take place along the Blackpool North Shore beachfront from June 28 - 29 as part of the Veterans Day celebrations. Aero GP is real air racing with eigth high performance sport aircraft racing together, as well as aerobatics.
The airport has joined forces with Aero GP to provide an exciting air race competition based at the hub. The event will take place over the sea along the North Shore beachfront and huge crowds are expected to watch as part of the Veterans Day celebrations.
Blackpool Airport, which has been a centre for flying activity since 1909 and celebrates its Centenary next year, will provide Aero GP aircraft with use of facilities and services from the airport in a joint venture with Hangar 3.
Susan Kendrick, communications manager at the airport said: ‘This is the first ever Aero GP event in the UK and we are delighted that they will be coming to Blackpool. We are certain that there will be huge interest in the air racing events and hopefully their success will ensure it becomes an annual event.'
