Job loss fears
08.10.08
Staff at Blackpool Airport fear for their jobs after bosses announced actions to cope with the effects of the global credit crunch and the downturn in the aviation industry, the Gazette reports. Temporary staff will not have their contracts renewed and many full-time workers are to be asked to re-apply for roles in other departments.
Around 100 employees working in security, baggage handling and passenger check-in are affected by the changes, which airport bosses described as essential ‘streamlining’. Bosses at the airport are said to be confident they can avoid redundancies, although they admit staff will have to be ‘flexible’ in taking on new roles. A consultation process is under way.
