Jersey route scrapped
10.02.08
Officials at Blackpool Airport are ‘disappointed’ that a summer route to Jersey has been axed. Channel Island Travel has dropped the route this summer due to a fall in demand. The service – which first took off from the airport in the 1960s – was once popular with summer leisure passengers, but said a drop in passenger numbers had attributed to its decision.
Susan Kendrick, communications manager at Blackpool Airport, said: ‘We are disappointed at the decision to withdraw the Jersey route. However we appreciate that charter holiday companies are looking to restructure their businesses as more of their customers are booking holidays online with the low cost airlines.'
She added that the airport is looking to replace the Jersey service and is talking to airlines about re-introducing a London link.
