Man arrested over gun at Blackpool Airport

A man has been arrested at Blackpool Airport on suspicion of firearms offences after a gun was discovered in his hold luggage. The news comes in the same week that a woman was caught with an iguana in her bra at the airport.
Police said a 39-year-old man, from Blackpool, was detained at the hub on Friday afternoon after an anonymous tip-off to security staff. Officers searched the man's hold luggage after his Ryanair flight from the northwest Spanish town of Girona landed at Blackpool and discovered the gun.
A spokesman for Lancashire police said: 'A blank firing firearm and ammunition was recovered from baggage which had been in the plane's hold. A man has been questioned by officers and released on police bail pending further enquiries. At this stage officers are not treating the incident as terrorist related nor do we believe the gun was intended to be passed on to anyone else.'
A spokeswoman for Ryanair said that the airline is co-operating fully with the investigation. It is not clear how the hold luggage passed through security screening at the Spanish airport and was allowed onto the plane.
