Council planners criticise Blackpool Airport expansion plans

Blackpool Airport's vision for its future has been criticised by town hall bosses. A report due to go before Fylde Council's planning policy scrutiny committee said the airport's draft masterplan does not do enough to explain how it plans to cope with the forecast rise in passenger numbers.
The masterplan suggests that passenger numbers will rise from 350,000 last year to as many as 4,300,000 in 2030. City Hopper Airports - who operate the airport - expects the number of daily flights to increase from an average of 15 - 20 at present to 141 a day by 2030.
However, Fylde Council's report states: 'There is concern there is no evidence contained in the document to justify the indicated scales of growth.' The report also criticises the plan for failing to explain how much noise would be created by larger aircraft using the airport.
