CAA wants airlines to display airport fees
28.10.10
Airlines could be forced to display ‘development charges’ imposed by airports on their websites when displaying air fares under plans by the CAA. CAA chief executive Andrew Haines said he is taking legal advice about what the CAA can do to force airlines to display the charge under EU laws on transparent pricing.
Charges have been introduced by a number of regional airports including Norwich, Blackpool and Newquay, and will be launched by Durham Tees Valley next month, as a way of making up for a decline in revenues. Haines said the CAA supported the airports’ right to impose these charges, but it was important the consumer was told about the fee before they arrived at the airport.
